We got lucky, our last National Park Service (NPS) property visited was Effigy Mounds National Monument, two days before the start of the federal government shutdown which has resulted in the closing of public access to all NPS properties.
Overall, we visited 14 National Parks, 16 National Monuments, 2 National Historical Sites (I will not repeat them here, as they are described in prior posts made during this trip).
Some of these are free to all, but many require payment of a daily per-vehicle pass. All this to say that we have had an excellent return on the “lifetime senior pass” which I purchased for $80 when I turned 63.
We also got lucky with our trip timing.
