Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota

Today, we had an early start and did the first tour of the day inside Wind Cave.

How that came about is that half of the tour tickets can be purchased one year in advance, and the remainder become available for same-day tours at the visitor center when it opens.  So we were in line at 7:30 AM, and got our ticlets for teh 9:00 tour, shortly after the visitor center opened at 08:00.

It was well worth it, because despite having visited many caves before, this one has unique formations called “boxwork” which aren’t present in other caves around the world.

After we were done with the tour, we drove surface roads withing the park which feature the grasslands present in the area.  We did get the best bison sightings so far, and in one instance, we had them on both sides of our truck and crossing right in front of us.  It was great!
