Today we drove from from Camp Verde to Mesa, which is itself a significant community (more than 1/2 a million residents), essentially in the suburbs of Phoenix (the Phoenix Metropolitan Statistical area counts 5M residents, the 11th in the USA by size). It was literally a downhill drive from Camp Verde which is at an elevation of 3,150 ft, down to Mesa which is at a1325 ft elevation. We have driven bigger altitude changes during this trip, however, one section of I-17 had a sign that we were going downhill for the next 14 miles, which is pretty unusual.
We got to our campground 20 minutes before the published check-in time. This is normally not an issue. But this time, the guy at the security gate gave us attitude, and mentioned that normally we should be paying a surcharge for early check-in. Maybe the guy was having a bad day, but we are pleased with the campground itself. No real visiting today…being in a big city, we did a trip to Total Wines , as well as a stop at the grocery store to stock up.
