Nothing special here. A planned stopover to divide the trip back home into shorter segments. This one shifts us from the I-95 axis to the I-81 axis. The final part of getting to the campground involved about 20 minutes of minor roads, but the reward was that our destination was very quiet. Also, we were… Continue reading Binghamton, NY area

Lake George, NY
This was one of the few 3-night stays during our trip, because the campground had a pay for 2 and get third night free offer (here again, they were closing for the season on our departure date). Unsurprisingly there was very little activity in Lake George, with many restaurants and shops now closed for the… Continue reading Lake George, NY
More ferries…NY-CT
I guess we liked using the ferry enough that we decided to do that a second time to go across the Long Island Sound into Connecticut. We saw two benefits in doing that: 1) avoid hitting the NYC-area traffic again; 2) getting to drive across the northern branch of long island. Along the northern branch,… Continue reading More ferries…NY-CT
Long Beach, NY
Today, we visited a business acquaintance and friend of Claudette at her Long Island home in Long Beach. We took the scenic route to get to her place, had good conversations, took a walk along the long beach boardwalk right around sunset, and ended our visit with a nice dinner at a local Mexican restaurant.
Montauk,, NY
Today was a big driving day – more than 4 hours of driving, including driving around New York City via the George Washington Bridge. I chose a park that had high ratings, and those were well deserved, but that park is at the far eastern end of the south branch of Long Island. Predictably, traffic… Continue reading Montauk,, NY
Niagara Falls – USA side wineries
Our friends Mike and Josy came to visit from Canada, and our plan was to visit US-side wineries. Claudette pre-selected three that had good reviews, and then we had Mike select which one of these to go to first. We started off at Arrowhead winery, and did a flight of their red wines. We weren’t… Continue reading Niagara Falls – USA side wineries
Niagara Falls – USA side
Our passports are being renewed, so crossing the border to the Canadian side was out of the question. This was an opportunity to visit the falls on the US side. The Canadian side has a better reputation for a frontal view of the falls. The US side offer what is more of a sideways view. … Continue reading Niagara Falls – USA side
“Kodak” museum and fingers lake area – Canandaiga lake
Three main things today: 1- Eastman Kodak’s world headquarters are based out of Rochester NY. So we decided to visit the Kodak museum. It had a quite interesting display on the history of photographic media and cameras. Undoubtedly, the best part of the visit was the self-guided tour of the Eastman mansion. 2- We drove… Continue reading “Kodak” museum and fingers lake area – Canandaiga lake
Erie Canal
Today, we drove to Macedon, NY to a campground that backs off on the Erie Canal, which connects lake Ontario to Lake Erie. While it is definitely a canal, it is much smaller than I was expecting, and just wide enough for recreational boats. Today was really hot, and we spent most of the afternoon… Continue reading Erie Canal
Salmon River Falls
For our day two in Parish, we started off by canoeing for about an hour in the morning, on a small lake which was part of the campground property. In the afternoon, we drove to Salmon River Falls, close to the campground. The falls were quite nice, and the path to the falls mostly graveled… Continue reading Salmon River Falls
