Here are a few stats, many from this website https://www.touropia.com/largest-lakes-in-the-world/ First of them, none are “the biggest in the world”. That title goes to the Caspian Sea…Despite its misleading name, the Caspian Sea is actually a lake as it is entirely landlocked – the world’s largest lake or body of water, in fact. The caspiansea… Continue reading The great lakes stats – how big?

Truck in the shop
Our campground is in the middle of nowhere, so unsurprisingly, there is no Ford dealer nearby. None of the three closest dealers had the part presumed faulty in stock, but one gave me the names of two dealers wo did have it. So off we go on a 50 minute drive to Grandville, in the… Continue reading Truck in the shop
Primitive camping
Today we are at Newaygo state park, which is a primitive campground as in no hookups whatsoever. We have been carrying our generator for the whole trip, so now I got to use it. How quickly do we forget. It was quite humid, and I wanted to run the AC a bit to dehumidify the… Continue reading Primitive camping
Mechanical/electrical issues – Trailer Brake Controller Fault
This started developing a couple of days ago. we are driving without the trailer, and we start getting “trailer disconnected” messages. Then yesterday, also “TBC fault” error messages. Sin ec this was happening only when there was no trailer, this was tolerable. However, today as we are pulling the trailer, the same starts happening. At… Continue reading Mechanical/electrical issues – Trailer Brake Controller Fault
Higgins Lake, MI
We were stunned yesterday when we got here to see how many boats were on the water. Today, it rained on and off all day, so we drove the entire periphery of the lake, and we thing we understand why there are so many boats. Michigan appears to make an effort to limit development on… Continue reading Higgins Lake, MI
Furthest point in our outbound journey
Today we arrived at South Higgins Lake State Park. Unlike the other state parks we have visited, which had free spots, this one is packed, despite having nearly 500 campsites. What is special about this park is that it is right on a lake that allows motorboats, and the campground is designed for that. The… Continue reading Furthest point in our outbound journey
Bay City State Park, MI
This is a beautiful park, and not very busy. We learned that logging was the main business in the heyday of Bay City. The campground is off Saginaw Bay, which adjoins Lake Huron. Essentially Michigan looks like a left-hand mitten, and Bay City is where the thumb meets the hand. The waters were surprisingly clear,… Continue reading Bay City State Park, MI
The Henry Ford Museum – Dearborn, MI
Wow, where do I begin. We showed up a few minutes after the 9:30 opening, and left a few minutes before the 5PM closing time. It was a full day, but we were able to see everything we wanted seeing without feeling rushed. It’s a good thing we didn’t try to squeeze in “Greenfield village”. … Continue reading The Henry Ford Museum – Dearborn, MI
Detroit Riverwalk
During the morning, we did a quick run to Costco to restock, under the suspicion that we would not have a nearby Costco as we moved to our other stops in Michigan. We wanted to get a feel for Detroit, and started from the Detroit Riverwalk. It allowed us to spend quite a pleasant afternoon… Continue reading Detroit Riverwalk
National Museum Of The Great Lakes
We did an enjoyable outing to the National Museum Of The Great Lakes today. Fun facts: Of the 5 great lakes, 4 straddle the Canada/ USA boundary: from west to east: Superior, Huron, Erie, Ontario. Only one, lake Michigan, is entirely on US soil. Collectively, the great lakes hold 84% of all freshwater in North… Continue reading National Museum Of The Great Lakes
