San Antonio – The Alamo and River Walk

Today we went back to the Alamo.  This being a weekday, we were able to get immediate timed entry tickets to see the inside of the Alamo building, as well as the fenced-in (high stone wall) portion of the Alamo grounds adjoining the Alamo. I discovered that this is very much about the war between Mexico and the republic of Texas (which predates Texas becoming part of the USA)

River Walk is within walking distance of the Alamo and follows the river.  As one would expect, there is a mix of thriving businesses and storefronts undergoing redevelopment.  One stretch is particularly successful and has one restaurant after another.  After walking quite a bit we selected a place called the Iron Cactus where we had Mexican style cuisine.  We ate outside on the terrace, overlooking the river, and the temperature was an amazing (and short lived) 72 degrees.  This was only the second time we are in a restaurant since we left home (First time having been in Arlington TX, (Near Dallas) when we met up with one of Bernard’s work colleagues from the SJI days and his wife.
