Monahans Sand Hills State Park

This is our first stay in a Texas State Park.  We have a Water and Electric hookup for a fraction of what the commercial campgrounds charge. More importantly, the park is in the middle of an area that consists of ever-changing sand dunes, some as high as 50 ft.  The dunes are open to pedestrian traffic, and hiking in the dunes is quite an interesting experience.  Walking up or down the slopes requires a lot of physical exertion, due to each footstep causing a lot of sinking into the sand.  We discovered that walking along the ridges is much easier, as the wind blow sand ends up being packed more tightly there, resulting in much less sinking.
