Fort Laramie National Historical Site, Wyoming

Today was a rainy day, and being near the state line between Wyoming and Nebraska, we venytrured back west to visit a site which we have heard about a lot, both in the past and during this trip, Fort Laramie.

It was originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best-known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. Fort Laramie witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories.

Astonishingly, given the distances and its distance from the current US-Canada border, there are Canadian roots in the fort’s name, and is clearly explained in this post for anyone interested

Claudette will post pictures
