I can’t believe that it’s already been a week since we left our house to move into our RV. Mind you, it hasn’t felt that different since we’ve been at the house every single day since last Sunday.
I’ve read many stories of couples getting into huge arguments over renovation projects. Let me tell you, we are so tired and exhausted that we barely have enough energy to drive to and from our camping.
Our day often starts at 5:30 am where we get up, have breakfast and get ready to leave by 6:30 to drive about 50 minutes just to get to the house to finish our cleaning and painting. Bernard still works through this entire project while I’ve put everything on hold to work for the house.
We never thought it would be such a long process to clear out all our stuff and then to get the house ready. We are still far away from our goal to put our house on the market for August 1st. It probably won’t be before August 15th by the looks of it.
We had our first family dinner last Wednesday when Julie and her kids and Sebastien and Taylor came for dinner. I was really happy to have them over, to show them how we are doing and create new memories together. We even had Stephanie join us via G-chat. It left me teary-eyed when I thought of all those moments shared in the past.
The most emotional moment for me was when I finally took down all the photos and drawing off my fridge. That did it. It was no longer our home, but a house. My fridge was naked as was the house of all our furnishings and personal items. It will soon be ready for another family to enjoy and create wonderful memories.
Moving and downsizing is a challenge for any couple I think. There is so much to think about and discuss. Should we keep these folders of papers or not. How about this vase? Do you really like it enough to keep it in storage for six to eight months, really?
We’ve given ourselves permission to get frustrated and angry, but just not at the same time. We need at least one person to be level headed at any given moment.
Now we are pushing to finish all the work so that we can sell this house to someone who will enjoy it as much as we did.
PS. Here are a few photos of our first week. We have a few more, we just need to find where we put the camera so we can upload the rest of the photos.
