When we broke down, we got towed into Burns, Oregon. At 07:30 AM on Monday morning, we called the dealer where our truck had been towed to, and they said the earliest they could take us in was September 15!!! We called two alternatives that the tow truck driver had given us, and they too were too busy to take us. One was kind enough to suggest that we would have better chance in Bend OR, or Boise, ID. A few minutes later, the Ford dealer called back to advise that he tried to start our truck, and it started, and that if we didn’t stop it, we should make it to our next destination
We called a couple of places ahead of time, and both said they were booked solid but would try to squeeze us in between their other appointments
So we packed up our RV ready to go, walked to the Ford dealer, and started our “don’t stop the engine” combo or driving back to our campground in Burns, driving to our campground in Boise, driving to two Enterprise rent-a-car (without success – no cars available) then driving to the repair shop barely making it before their 5PM shop closing time.
From there, we called an Uber to drive us to Boise airport and pickup the rental car I had booked online while driving to the repair shop.
During our downtime, and having backup wheels, we did some grocery restocking, found a great “tap house” that had a selection of draft beers and ciders, and visited the Idaho botanical garden.
Also, lucky for us, the site we were assigned was by far the nicest one we have had on this trip, and the campground had an interior pool and hot tub, and we took advantage of that all three nights that we stayed there.

Yesterday, around lunchtime, we got a call that our truck was fixed, so we went to pick it up and return the rental car So today we hit the road again, heading out to Hagerman, ID. But that’s for another post
So sorry to hear about your truck glitch! You were near my eastern Oregon home when in Burns, but more likely that place will always have a negative feel for you!
Millie, let’s say our negative opinion is limited to Burns Ford, and the fact that they weren’t willing to take us in before a month out. As noted in that post, , we were actually 61 miles short of Burns when we broke down along US-395 just slightly north of “Christmas Valley-Wagontire road” which we had just driven. All being relative, Burns was a “big place” compared to what we had just driven through. Thankfully, Boise ID was even bigger and we got our problem fixed there. Thanks for reading our blog. We write it mainly for us to document our experience, but we appreciate that people who know us follow our adventures.
