Minnesota calls itself the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Voyageurs National Park illustrates that, as much of the parks activities are water-centric, such as fishing and boating.
This inscription from one of the exhibits in the visitor center states: “Voyageurs paddling birch bark canoes transported furs from as far west as Lake Athabasca to Montreal, three thousand miles east”
