Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas

Palo Duro Canyon was a wonderful day trip a short distance from Amarillo, TX.  We spent most of the day there, most of the time was driving around the park’s loop road and stopping to take pictures, but we did include one stop for a picnic lunch, and one for a 1.5 mile hike on a trail rated as difficult (and of course, more photos were taken during the hike).  What makes this trip interesting, is that we enter from the plateau, but get to drive down to the bottom of the canyon.

Claudette’s Two Cents.

I really enjoyed this park. I felt it was a glimpse as to what will be coming once we get to Grand Canyon. I was really concerned about this hike is 3500 feet about sea level, but we did very well. As long as I take my time, have my water, good boots and walking poles.

Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon system in the United States. The canyon is about 120 miles long and 20 miles wide, and is up to 800 feet deep. It extends from Canyon to Silverton.

Here are a few of the pictures and a video I took at the Canyon.
