Beautiful multi-story mural In Shreveport LA

Today we visited Shreveport/Bossier.  I made a separate entry specifically on the Louisiana Boardwalk.

On our way there, we stopped by an AT&T building that had an impressive 8 story high mural.

More information about it can be found here.

We also visited the R.W. Horton Art Gallery (a museum really – not a store, which is what galleries usually are), which had free admission and a quite impressive collection of art pieces.  We truly enjoyed the two hours we spent there.

Claudette’s 2 Cents:

I don’t have much to add except that one of the things we enjoy when we travel is to drive around the cities and get a sense of what makes it special. Art murals is one of those things. I’m always in amazement when I see these big artworks on buildings for all to enjoy. What amazed me even more is the challenge of painting such a big piece when your face is so close to it.

Art galleries or in this case the museum was very impressive in that we saw artwork that we’ve never seen elsewhere and by artists that we know about like Moran, Remington, Cassatt, Lautrec, Bierstadt and a few lesser known, like Monet’s stepdaughter Blanche Hoschedé Monet and a cross-stitch of the Unanimous Declaration of Independence of the Thirteen United States of America.

This is a silk cross-stitch of the Independence of USA. Impressive. 1844
