Hot Springs National Park.

We moved on to Hot Springs, AR early in the morning to beat the forecasted snowfall later in the day. In the afternoon, and before the actual start of the snowfall, we decided to go and scope out what the area looks like. Eight “bath houses” were built in the late 1910s-early 1920s.  Today, two of these still operate, and the other have been converted to other uses, one of them being the National Park visitor center.  This is great, since that particular one was the “rich people” bath house.  So, it is preserved with all its luxuries, including stained glass windows, and ample use of marble throughout.  We learned that the springs were “capped” in 1901, and the hot water channeled though a centralized holding tank feeding all the bathhouses.  The guide told us the average water temperature is 143°F.  There is a side story that in the past gambling was allowed, and famous mobsters including Al Capone vacationed here in Hot Springs.
