Yesterday, we have used our first of 17 “floating days”. There was a snowstorm, which started as forecasted at 9 AM, and dropped 4 ½ inches of snow (as measured by Bernard on the picnic table – 6 1/2 according to the campground owner). Today, we decided to stay put for an additional day. It was 7° F when we woke up. Too cold to operate the hydraulic system and retract the slideouts and leveling jacks. Furthermore, a significant amount of ice appears to have formed on top of the slideouts (heat of the RV melting the snow) which would also have hindered retracting them, or possibly caused damage to the rubber gaskets (as we once did with our previous RV). We are running on our fresh water tank reserve, as the water supply line has frozen, despite the use of a heated hose. In any case, we are warm and comfy inside.
Claudette’s 2 Cents: We were supposed to go to Nashville next but with the snow and ice on the roads, there’s no way we’re risking in. Plus, I have excellent internet, so I’m happy here. With this downtime, I’m able to work on some long-term projects that I’ve not had a chance to finalize, write some articles and emails and do several interviews for the magazine I write for.
During the time we’ve been away, our home base hasn’t had any power for several days and no working furnace. Thank goodness Carly was able to go to the house and check things out (as she arrived home the power came back on – but not the furnace.)
